In his capacity as UDIA National Councillor, Executive Director Darren Walsh spent two days in Parliament House in Canberra last week, meeting with the key Federal Ministers, including Environment Minister Sussan Ley. 

Discussions focused on the EPBC Act review and the need for improved alignment amongst all levels of government. Minister Ley reinforced that the Federal government is encouraging WA to proceed with SAPPR and advised that WA is set to lead other states in a digitised assessment process that will fast-track major projects through the approvals process.

The National Council also met with Professor Graeme Samuel who is heading up the independent review of the EPBC Act.  This provided an excellent opportunity to gain insight into the review process and for the UDIA to outline key areas for suggestions for amendment of the Act.
